Swampy areas, cultivation ponds, muddy roadsides, creek edges, and other wet disturbed areas, generally at low elevations and often near or on sea coasts; southern and southeastern Asia, Australia, widely in the Pacific region, and sporadically in the Caribbean and Indian Ocean.
