Notes:
The identity of this name is not clear. It was based on several unspecified collections of Linden in Mexico. Rusham et al. 2008 considered the type (or a type) of Xerococcus lindenii to be Linden 1638 from Chiapas, Mexico and studied a duplicate at K to determine that this is a species of Hoffmannia. None of the original specimens have been seen for this review of the genus, and none of the specimens studied by Ruhsam et al. appear to be imaged on the web for consultation and they did not provide enough details of the material they studied to identify this material to species. The protologue distinguished this species from Xerococcus congestus by the details of the calyx lobes and anthers, and its smaller leaves, but these details are not adequate to relate Kuntze's species to our modern taxonomy of Hoffmannia. As noted by Burger in the Flora Mesoamericana treatment of Hoffmannia, the description of Xerococcus lindenii suggests it may be an older name for Hoffmannia huehueteca but the identity of this name will need better documentation before it can be used with confidence.
