Zappi (2003) synonymized Mapouria xanthophylloides Muell. Arg. and Psychotria xanthophylloides (Muell. Arg.) Standl. with this subspecies. Those names however were (essentially) simultaneously treated by Taylor (2005) as synonyms of Margaritopsis cymuligera; examination of Mueller's material at G by both authors confirms these plants are Rudgea.
