Low, perennial herb. Rhizome subterranean, fusiform. Stems slender, procumbent or ascending. Leaves 1-2(-3.5) x 0.7-1.5(-2.5) cm., ovate-oblong or suborbicular, cordate-auriculate at base with rounded auricles, obtuse at apex, more or less puberulent beneath; petiole about as long as sinus or longer. Flowers solitary in upper axils, 3-5 (-6) cm., very short-pedicelled. Perianth dark-purple, glabrous outside; tube hardly incurved, with ovoid utricle; limb linear-lanceolate, puberulent on inner surface, much longer than tube. Ovary hirtellous. Capsule 0.8-1.4 cm., nearly globular. Fl. December-May (-July).
