Erect or suberect, small perennial herb, (5-) 10-20 (-30) cm tall, glabrous, subglaucous, simple or unbranched; rootstock thick, covered with withered sheathing leaf bases. Radical leaves 2-3-ternate, long stalked, 10-15 cm long, with petiole half as long; pinnae 10-20 mm in diam, petioluled, each with 2 deeply dissected lobes; each lobe again deeply dissected to the base into 3.4 lobules or ultimate segments; lobule linear to elliptic-oblong, (5-) 8-15 mm long, 2-3 mm broad, acute or obscurely mucronate. Cauline leaves 0-2, often 2 opposite or sub-opposite, down below the middle of the stem, small, simply few lobed or pinnatisect to almost entire, Racemes 10-20-flowered, somewhat lax in fruit and up to 10 cm long, not exceeding the radical leaves; bracts long, linear, sessile, 15-30 mm long, 2-5 mm broad, sessile, much exceeding the pedicels. Flowers pale yellow, often with purplish tips, (16-) 18-23 mm long, including spur c. 3/4 as long (or more than half as long), slender and. downcurved below. Sepals 1-1.5 mm in diam., dissected, inconspicuous. Upper petal limb dorsally conspicuously winged above the acute apex, about half as along as the slender narrow spur; lower petal similarly winged, somewhat saccate at base. Pedicels 10-20 mm long, deflexed in fruit. Capsule linear-elliptic, 10-15 mm long, 2-2.5 mm broad; style 3-3.5 mm long with a dilated curved stigma; seeds 6-8 (-10), sub-biseriate, c. 1.5 mm in diam.
