Grows in open grass lands at an elevation of 2000-2500 m.

Yeo (l.c. 1981) treated E. multiflora Pennell as the synonym of E. himalayica Wettst. but a careful study of the type and the material available shows that the two taxa are not conspecific. In E. multiflora Pennell, plants are densely branched with 3-6 pairs of ascending, long, lax branches which are equalling or longer than the main stem, bract lobes are aristulate, longer than broad and the capsule is ciliate at the upper part with stiff cilia. While in E. himalayica Wettst. the plants are unbranched with 2-5 pairs of ascending long stiff branches, which are neither equalling nor exceeding the main stem. The lobes of the floral leaves are acute, rarely acuminate, as long as broad. The capsule is ciliate all over with soft cilia.
