Erect, annual herb, 3.5-16 cm tall. Cauline leaves 4-7 x 2-7 mm, ovate or broadly ovate, rarely elliptic, 4-5-lobed, with truncate base; lobes medianally incurved, acute-obtuse; lobes as long as broad; upper antrorse, lower patent (4-5 x 2-4 mm, ovate or rarely elliptic, 4-lobed, lobes obtuse in aestival and 5.5-7 x 4.5-7 mm, broadly ovate, 5-lobed, lobes acute in autumnal form). Racemes lax, but broad at the tip. Floral leaves similar to cauline leaves but lobes acute-acuminate, 4-9.5 x 3-9.5 mm (4-6 x 3-5 mm, lobes acute in aestival and 6.5-9.5 x 5.5-9.5 mm, lobes acuminate in autumnal form). Flowers 5-9 mm long; pedicels c. 0.5 mm long. Calyx 3-7 mm long; lobes 1.5-3.5 x 0.5-1 mm, equal or subequal; tube 1.5-3 mm long. Corolla dorsally 5-9 mm long; tube 2-5 mm long, externally densely pubescent on the upper lip. Upper lip 2-4 mm long. Lower lip 3-6 mm long; lobes obovate or oblong, obcordate, erose-deeply notched, middle lobe largest 1.5-3.5 x 1-3.5 mm, left and right lobes unequal, left lobe 1.5-3 x 1.5-3 mm, right lobe 1.5-2.5 x 1-3 mm. Two anthers with equal and two with subequal awns; hairs long, twice as long as the longer awn. Capsule 3.5-4.5 x 1.5-2.5 mm (3.5-4 x 1.5-2 mm in aestival and c. 4.5 x 2.5 mm in autumnal form), oblong, retuse, shorter than the calyces, ciliate at the upper part; cilia soft. Seeds 4-12 per capsule (4-7 seeds in aestival and 8-12 seeds in autumnal form), oblong, acute.
