This species it appears to belongs to a group of Palicourea species with adaptations for nocturnal pollination (Taylor et al., 2010), including a relatively long white corolla. Palicourea breedlovei is similar to several others from the same region, and in particular Palicourea sousae; see Taylor et al. (2010) for a key to these.
