Annotation: Based on Volkameria L., Syst. 1: 14, 1735, and including as a synonym Sesamum L., 1737, and not Volkameria L., 1737. Kuntze used this older name for Sesamum because he used an earlier starting date for plant names, but our current nomenclature starts officially in 1753 so the earlier names do not exist under the current Code. Volkameria L. 1737 included completely different plants (traditional Verbenaceae, modern Lamiaceae) from Volkameria L. 1735, and this later use was the one adopted by Linnaeus in 1753, so the validly published name Volkameria does not apply to the same plants as Sesamum.
