The correct name for Alopecurus alpinus Sm. is A. magellanicus, but the infraspecific taxonomy is not certain for the NW. Tzvelev (1976) indicates that A. alpinus (Sm.) var. borealis, and subsp. glaucus (= A. magellanicus subsp. glacus) are in North America, but which, if either, of these applies to subsp. magellanicus has not been established, nor has the occurrence of subsp. magellanicus been confirmed for North America.
