Notes:
This species has glabrescent stems and leaves, well developed, narrow, rather thick-texutred obovate to elliptic leaf blades, short cymose inflorescences borne with and below the leaves, rather short red to yellow corollas, and ellipsoid fruits. The leather texture of the leaves is unusual in Hoffmannia, as are the corollas of this species with the tube much longer than the lobes. Hoffmannia coriacea is similar to Hoffmannia obovata, which has thinn-textured leaves and corollas with the lobes about as long as the tube.
