Notes:

This species is rather commonly collected. It is similar to Schizocalyx condoricus, and more study would be useful to clarify their relationships and distinctions. Some plants from central and southern Peru are unusual in having relatively large calyx limbs and perhaps corollas, but they have no clearly distinct distribution or morphological characters and are provisionally included in Schizocalyx peruvianus for now (e.g., Perea & Mateo 61, Graham 6002).

Distribution: Wet Andean forests at 200-1600 m from nothern Ecuador to southern Peru.
