Notes: This species is similar to Schizocalyx peruvianus, and more study would be useful to clarify their relationships and distinctions. This species is also similar to Schizocalyx veraguensis of Central America, but these are well separated geographically and apparently also by substrate preference.
Distribution: Wet Andean forests of central through southern Ecuador at 350-2000 m, mainly on sandstone formations.
