Shrub 4-5 ft tall. Stem glabrous, reddish brown, sulcate. Leaves broadly ovate-cordate, obtuse or subacute, sinuate, basally cordate, glabrous, basal leaves 18-30 x 15-20 cm long petioled; upper cauline leaves winged petiolate, semiamplexicaul, lanceolate-oblanceolate, 10 x 6 cm. Capitula numerous pedunculed, in elongated or conical racemes, heterogamous, radiate, 2-2.5 cm in diameter. Involucre cylindrical, phyllaries uniseriate, lanceolate, acute-acuminate, glabrous but puberulous towards the apex, 8-10 x 3-4 mm. Ray florets ligulate, female, 10-16 mm long, 6-9 veined; disc florets tubular, bisexual, corolla 5-6 mm long, limb campanulate, 3-4 mm long, tube 2 mm long. Anthers apically obtuse, shortly caudate. Cypsela oblong, blackish-reddish brown, 8-10 ribbed, 4-8 mm long. Pappus basally connate forming a crown or of minute bristles, 1-3 mm long, 40-50, reddish brown.
