Up to 120 cm tall, stout herb. Stem finely pubescent, terete often flexuous, branched, naked below. Leaves membranous, 7-12 cm long, usually as broad as long, triangular-cordate or obscurely 3-lobed, acuminate irregularly sinuate toothed angles and teeth apiculate, petiole slender, base, broadly auricled. Racemes very slender, panicled. Capitula c. 6 mm long, very shortly peduncled, drooping. Phyllaries 3-5, c. 2.5 mm long, oblong, much smaller than the corollas. Corolla c. 5.5 mm long. Anthers slightly exserted. Cypselas glabrous, ribbed, c. 2 mm long, shorter than the copious brown or reddish pappus.
