Perennial herbs, erect. Stem and branches angled, almost glabrous. Leaves elliptic to ovate or lanceolate, crenulate to serrate, pubescent at both sides, 2.0-2.5 x 1.3-1.6 cm, petiole up to 2 cm long. Capitula homogamous discoid, 1.5-2 (-2.5) cm in diameter, subtended by 1-3 foliaceous bracts at the base. Involucral bracts many, pluriseriate, acuminate, spiny, areolate-subulate, rigid, erect, spreading, outer smaller, inner large with a distinct, raised central vein, ciliate at the margin, cilia distant, somewhat stiff like spines. Florets bisexual, tubular, yellow. Cypselas c. 2.5 mm long, turbinate, long villous. Pappus uniseriate, bristles 10, subulate to lanceolate with a distinct midrib and hyaline on either side, united at base forming a star-shaped structure on the cypsela.
