Bryoerythrophyllum subcaespitosum is characterized by the ligulate to lingulate-leaves to 1.5 mm, broadly rounded to obtuse apices, revolute margins throughout, subpercurrent costa, and rudimentary to short and straight peristome. Similar to Pseudocrossidium linearifolium with regard to leaf shape and recurved margins but differs from B. subcaespitosum by the percurrent to short excurrent costa. This species was treated in detail by Jiménez and Cano (2012).
