Notes:
This species is characterized by persistent bilobed stipules; small leaves of distinctive form, with the upper part lanceolate to somewhat rhombic-lanceolate and the lower part tapered and slender to the subsessile base; terminal cymose inflorescences; quite small, sessile to shortly pedicellate flowers; and small ellipsoid fruits. The basal portion of the leaf blade was interpreted as a winged petiole by Bremekmap. This species is similar to Psychotria schatzii, found in nothern Madagascar, and very similar to Psychotria boivinianum of the Comores. The plants from Toliara are included provisionally here, and represent a range extension for the species; no characters distinguish the available specimens from the different regions, but the population is not well documented in Toliara. This species has been collected on rocky, sandy, and limestone substrates, including tsingy.
