 Malpighia inclinata A. Pool, Novon 31: 237. 2023

Arbustos o árboles pequeños, 2–8 m de alto; tallos more or less seríceos, the trichomes  initially appearing sessile or with short and thick stalks visible at 20x, láminas de las hojas más grandes oblanceolate u obovadas, 5--8 cm de largo y 2—3.1 cm de ancho, redondeadas u obtusas en el ápice y a menudo emarginadas (pero algunas veces agudas on normal non short-shoot growth), attenuate en la base, con 2 glándulas proximal del envés,  sericeous to glabrescent,  trichomes sessile, appressed with trabeculae more or less straight to somewhat sinuous; pecíolo 1--4 mm de largo, estípulas libres. Umbela con 4 (5) flores, el pedúnculo de la inflorescencia de 7--20 mm de largo; pedicels (9) 11—20 mm; cáliz con 6 o 7 glándulas; pétalos con frecuencia escasamente seríceos, opening bright pink and fading quickly to white; estambres all more or less similar or 2 with filaments usually only slightly more robust and with slightly larger anthers than the other 8; ovario glabro, unlobed, the carpels completely connate, styles all straight but 2 styles bent from base towards the posterior petal, apically truncate to flabellate, the third style slightly narrower, erect and apically truncate. Fruits drupes, only very immature seen, the most mature ca. 7 x 8 mm.

Rara en bosques secos, Estelí; 800–870 m; fl abr–may; Davidse 30679Stevens 27285; endemic. This species was treated in the printed version of the Flora as Malpighia emarginata, but Anderson suggested that alternatively it could represent a new species or a hybrid between M. stevensii and M. glabra.
