Notes: This species is characterized by its well developed, thick-textured, shortly petiolate leaves, its somewhat short pedunculate cymose inflorescences, its well developed tubular calyx limb, and its fleshy funnelform white flowers. In general aspect it is similar to Rudgea vellerea, which Zappi (2003) considered simliar to Rudgea insignis; in the protologue Rudgea hileiabahiana was compared only to Rudgea brachyandra, which was not treated by Zappi (2003).
Distribution: Wet Atlantic forest vegetation at 100-300 m in eastern Brazil, in Bahia state.
