Notas :

This section is found in the Neotropics from Nicaragua to northern Argentina, with centers of diversity in the Andes and the northern and western Amazon basin. It comprises 35 species, with many of them found in white sand or sandstone substrates. The section is characterized by a distinctive pattern of leaf venation, with numerous very well developed intersecondary veins between each pair of secondary veins and extensively reticulated higher-order venation; the flowers sessile and grouped into one or several heads and usually enclosed by well developed bracts; white to yellow corollas; and fruits that are often yellow to orange or red when immature and then become blue or blue-black at maturity.
