Annuals or perennial herbs, sometimes forming rosettes, shrubs, rarely trees (elsewhere). Leaves alternate or opposite, rarely whorled, Capitula radiate or discoid, usually terminal or axillary, solitary on long peduncles or more commonly in paniculiform or corymbiform cymes. Involucre cylindric to campanulate or hemispheric. Phyllaries 4 or 6 to many in 1 – 8 series, subequal mostly monomorphic rarely dimorphic. Receptacles flat or conical, usually paleate, paleae sometimes indurate and wrapping tightly around cypselae. Ray florets female, usually ligulate, 2– or 3–lobed, rarely tubular, white, yellow rarely brownish. Disc florets usually bisexual and fertile, rarely functionally male; corollas (4–) 5 (–6) lobed, usually white, yellow or yellow- orange or pale brown, rarely purplish. Anthers ecalcarate, ecaudate, appendages deltate to ovate, rarely broadly ovate. Styles branches with a short tuft of papillae. Cypselas obconic to obpyramidal, sometimes obcompressed , rarely quadrate. Pappus present or absent, when present of multiple bristles or scales of subequal or unequal length, persistent, sometimes fused at the base to form cup or of rarely shallow crown with 4 minute awns.

A very small tribe of 5 genera and ca. 150 species, most of the species distributed in tropical Mexico and S. America, a few extend to old world tropics. In Pakistan it is represented by the following (taxon?).
