Dark green, perennial herb, 15–25 (–40) cm tall, branched, branches, 1–4, lower branches 4–10 (–12) cm long, upper most short, leafy, almost glabrous. Basal leaves spathulate, attenuate into a winged petiole, almost entire–remotely denticulate, acute–obtuse, hirsute–crisped hairy on either side, cauline leaves similar to basal leaves, lanceolate–oblanceolate, sessile, semi–amplexicaul, gradually smaller, upper most lanceolate–ovate, sessile, much smaller. Capitulum terminal, solitary or in compact synflorescence, 2–2.5 cm across. Involucre hemispheric, densely hirsute–pilose, somewhat villous at base, intermixed with glands. Phyllaries 2–seriate, ovate–lanceolate, ca 5 mm long, ca 1 mm wide, acute. Ray florets numerous, over 100, light blue – lilac, 6–9 (–10) mm long, ligule ca 5 mm long, tube 2–3 mm long, hairy. Female eligulate florets present; corolla tube ca 3 mm long. Disc florets yellow, 4–5 mm long. Cypselas obovate, compressed, light to golden brown, 2–2.2 mm long, ca 1 mm wide, sericeous (silky hairs), hilum basal. Outer bristles of pappus ca 0.5 mm long, inner ones 5–6 mm long, dirty white–pale.
