Notes: This species is characterized by its robust habit, obovate leaves with numerous secondary veins and the higher-order venation areolate on the lower surface, large ovate bilobed stipules, pedunculate corymbiform inflorescences with rather well developed bracts, and small flowers. It is generally similar to Psychotria saltatrix, which however has rounded stipules and longer calyx limbs.
Distribution: Wet forest at 100-1325 m in the on the western Andean slopes in southern Colombia (Nariño) and northwestern Ecuador (Carchi, Esmeraldas).
