Project Data     (Last Modified On 8/3/2016)
Notes: This species has rather alrge shiny leaves, pyramidal thyrsoid inflorescences with the basalmost secondary axes markedly longer than the others, and its quite small corollas with tubes 1--1.5 mm long and the lobes abaxially appendaged. Only the type collection of Palicourea apiculata has been seen. The flowers may be the smallest in the genus, along with Palicourea racemosa, Palicourea brevicollis, Palicourea mamillaris, Palicourea minutiflora, and Palicourea forsteronioides. Palicourea apiculata is similar to Palicourea mamillaris, which has corolla lobes that are not abaxially appendaged; these two species may not be distinct but field study is needed to understand both of them better. Palicourea mamillaris is the more commonly collected species.
Distribution: Humid Atlantic forest vegetation in southeastern Brazil (Rio de Janeiros state).
