Description: Plantssmallto medium-sized. Stem unbrnanched. Corm tunics usually leathery to woody and clawed below, sometimes fibrous or membranous. Leaves 2 to 4, superposed with only lowermost basal,  usually firm-textured, linear to terete, midrib and margins usually thickened and variously raised, sometimes X- or H-shaped, rarely plane with unthickened midrib and margins, usually less than 5 mm wide, sometimes reduced on floweing stem. Spike few-flowered; bracts glabrous, margins of inner bracts free. Flowers small to medium, weakly to strongly bilabiate, nectar guides various, usually streaks or spots on a pale ground or a yellow transverse chevron edged in darker colour, usually strongly scented; perianth tube usually obliquely funnel-shaped, shorter than or much longer than dorsal tepal. Anthersnever tailed. Capsules oblong-ellisoid. Seeds broadly and evenly winged.
