Notes:
This species is characterized by its silky pubescence, shortly branched inflorescences, 4-merous flowers, shallowly lobed calyx limbs, slender corolla tubes 12-17 mm long and 1-1.2 mm in diameter, and capsules 40-50 x 2-3 mm. Joosia confusa has been included in or confused previously with several other species, and its distinctions are somewhat subtle. Joosia confusa has been confused in particular with Joosia pulcherrima, which has corolla tubes 16-24 mm long and 3-5 mm in diameter. Joosia confusa has also been confused with Joosia ulei, which has deeply divided calyx limbs with obtuse to rounded lobes. Joosia confusa has also been confused with Joosia umbellifera, which has well developed inflorescence axes, 5-merous flowers, and shorter calyx lobes. Joosia confusa is also similar to Joosia panamensis of Central America and western Colombia; Joosia panamensis has capsules 10-35 mm long and corolla tubes 1-2.5 mm in diameter.
