:
Palicourea acicularis is characterized by the combination of its hirtellous to hirsute pubescence, rather slender habit, deflexed branched inflorescences with slender, often verticillate axes, flowers borne separately or in small groups along the axes and subtended by narrow bracts, small white corollas, and rather small blue fruits. Palicourea acicularis is similar to Pal. cyanococca (Dombrain) Borhidi, which is allopatric and can be separated by its paired inflorescence axes, shorter calyx limbs 0.2–0.5 mm long, and shorter corolla lobes 0.5–1 mm long; vs. calyx limbs ca. 1 mm long and corolla lobes ca. 2 mm long in Pal. acicularis.
