Type: Type: North-West Pakistan, Gilgit, Sango Sar Lake and Rama, 6 km WSW of Astor along jeep track, 3800 m, north slope with Abies, Betula and Pinus, 4 Oct. 1983, Swedish Expedition to Pakistan (S.E.P.) 516 (= Alden et al. 6477) (holotype GB).
Distribution: Distribution: Known only from Gilgit, on rocky slopes.
Map Location: A-8 Gilgit, Khamuchi on way to Sharal. Khaltaron, Haramosh, 3,000 m. 4.9.06, fruit white, Sher Wali Khan 773B (KUH); Harramosh, Raijuth forest on way to Bonyee Khaltarow, 4/9/06, Wali Khan 774A (KUH).

Large shrubs or small trees. Twigs fairly stout, reddish-brown, all parts of young shoots and leaves thinly red-brown hairy, more or less glabrescent except on underside of rachis. Buds ovoid-conic, reddish, to about 14 mm. with red-brown hairs confined to the tip and scale margins. Leaves about 13-22 cm with 7-11 pairs of leaflets; leaflets to 26 – 47 x 11 - 23 mm, lanceolate, toothed almost to base, non-papillose beneath. Inflorescence a corymb of large, pale pink flowers more than 10mm in diameter. Fruit becoming pure white except for pinkish flush on sepals, large, 13 - 15 x 12 - 14 mm, ovoid with protuberant fleshy calyx. Styles 3.5-4.5 mm, closely inserted. Seed about 4.5 x 2.5 mm. Carpels 4-5, inferior, apices slightly white hairy, forming flat depressed area within calyx. Seed brown, to 5 x 2.5 mm, usually only one per fruit. An apomictic tetraploid (2n=68) microspecies.
