Type:

Type: “Habitat in India orientali, König (Hb. Linn. 123/5, n.v.; photo. BM! microfiche E!).

Distribution:

Egypt, Iraq (Kurdistan), Pakistan (Sind), southern India, Sri Lanka, Australia (Northern Territory in Victoria River region; Queensland).

Gorwing in shallow ponds and tanks; in Pakistan apparently restricted to the area around Thatta in southernmost Sind, on the edge of the Rann of Kutch and near the mouths of the Indus. Especially when robust, this species can be confused with Bacopa monnieri which it superficially resembles. However, it is easily distinguished by the following characters: flowers very much smaller (only 3 mm, not 8-11 mm), white, not mauvish or bluish; pedicels ebracteolate (not with 2 bracteoles just below the flower); leaves distinctly petiolate, not subsessile.

Map Location:

G-5 Thatta: 9 miles from Ladiun on way to Jati, 26.10.1969, Sultanul Abedin & A. Ghafoor 4192 (KUH); Thatta: c. 1 km from Sujawal on way to Thatta, 30.8.1984, Rizwan Yusuf & Gohar Khan 5 (KUH).
