This species is characterized by its medium-sized elliptic leaves, terminal cymose inflorescences, flowers borne in 3's with the terminal one sessile to only shortly pedicellate, slender white or pink-flushed corollas, and medium-sized fruits. The leaves sometimes dry with a greenish-blue coloration. The corolla tubes are 24-35 mm long and usually curved. Ixora froelichiana has been confused with Ixora spruceana, but further study finds that is the same species as Ixora francavilleana and quite distinct from Ixora froelichiana.
