Notes:
This species is characterized by its dark brown drying color, its small leaves, its small bilobed stipules, its ferrugineous-hirtellous stems, its solitary, shortly-pedunculate, small, 4-merous flowers that are nodding or pendulous, and its range in Marojejy. There are several similar Psychotria species, which Bremekemap separated by their erect to spreading, 5-merous flowers, and these are all found in east-central through southern Madagascar. The Kew Checklist (on-line, 29 Aug 2013) considers Psychotria penduliflora Bremek. to be a synonym of Psychotria scabrida, however Psychotria scabrida differs in its greenish drying color, its white-scabrous stems, its flowers in groups of 2-3, and its range in southeastern Madagascar. The name Psychotria penduliflora is however illegitimate, and new name is needed for this species. It seems to be known only from the type.
