Comment/Acknowledgements:

Stewart, l. c. included E. pseudohyrcanicus Grierson ined. in his catalogue and cited two specimens of Stewart, one from Gilgit (RRS 26237) and other from Naltar Valley (RRS 26516 a). In Plant List this name is accepted as “Grierson in R. R. Stewart (1972)”. The name was never validly published and simply a nomen nudum. We have examined both specimens and described as a new species and named it E. griersonii Roohi Abid & Qaiser in honour of A. J. C. Grierson (Edinburgh) who identified it for the first time.

The new species shows its close affinities to E. pseudoeriocephalus Rech. f. and E. uniflorus L. in general appearance in having stouter and robust habit, branched stem at the base and villous involucre. However, E. griersonii is pluricephalous whereas E. uniflorus is monocephalous. It also differs from E. pseudoeriocephalous by having densely leafy, almost glabrous stem and corymbosely arranged synflorescence and involucre not covered with long crisp laxly villose tomentum, longer ray florets and pappus bristles. Whereas in Erigeron griersonii stem is less leafy, pubescent, synflorescence racemosely arranged, involucre densely villous and smaller ray florets and pappus bristles.
