This species is notable for its stiff-textured leaves, stipules that are shortly fused around the stem, cymose inflorescences with small white to yellow flowers, and relatively smsll capsules. Danais coriacea is similar to Danais longipedunculata, which has duppl purple to brown, blackened, or bright yellow to red flowers.
