Comment/Acknowledgements: The characteristic form of the species in S.W. Asia (Jordan, Iraq, Arabia, southern Iran etc.); I have not seen it from Pakistan although transitional forms to the next subspecies (q.v.) occur. Aellen, l.c., quotes “Baluchistan, Stocks”, but apparently did not see a specimen and probably took the record from Boissier.

The typical subspecies, with the leaf-blade (in particular of the larger leaves of the main stem) at least 2.5 times as long as broad, narrowly oblong to linear-lanceolate. Perianth segments ± abruptly narrowed above, both they and the bracteoles shortly (to c. 0.25 mm.) mucronate, the mucro straight.
