Details: Toxicity: Among several species of Phaseolus whose cooked seeds are edible but for which animal consumption of raw seeds in quantity is reported to have detrimental effects (Wagstaff 2008). Occasional toxicity of raw seeds due to cyanogenic glycosides has been reported to occur usually in varieties with pigmented seeds (Verdcourt & Trump, 1969).
