Notes:
The name G. emirnense is based on a mss name by Hils. & Boj. The name was cited by Hooker in J Linn. Soc 6: 6 (1862), but not as an accepted name. It was synonymised with G. simense for plants from Fernando Po, Ethiopia and Madagascar. It was not therefore effectively published, and remains no more than a ms name. I have come to the conclusion that although the Malagasy material is somewhat distinct from the African (generally smaller size etc.) and is very variable, with various distinctive local forms in Madagascar, it does not make sense to attempt either to describe it as a single or a series of distinct sp. or to attempt an infraspec. classification, without an extensive and detailed revision of the species throughout its range. Furthermore, pending a full revision of this complex sp. I do not think the African var. latistipulatum is worth up-holding.
