General/Distribution: Type locality: Kashmir.
Habitat: A common plant in the hills in Kashmir, Murree, Hazara, Swat and Kurram from 1200 to 2800 m, very often growing gregariously. Leaves sometimes have insect galls on them. The wood is strong and is commonly used for making handles, walking sticks, bedsteads etc. The twigs are used for making baskets. Vern. Paser, Pishor.

Plants up to 5 m tall. Leaves sub orbicular; margins crenate serrate. Inflorescence short pedunculate, many flowered. Calyx persistent, densely pubescent, campanulate, lobed; lobes small. Stamens 15; filaments 3-4 mm long, erect. Ovary densely woolly. Fruits capsular, clustered. Seed ellipsoid, c. 6 mm long, brown, shining.
