Specimen BOCAS DEL TORO: Vicinity of Chiriqui Lagoon, Water Valley, von Wedel 1379 (MO, US). CHIRIQUI: Cerro Galera Chorcha, Allen 5022 (F, MO, US). Along highway near Rio Tabasara', Woodson et al. 411 (MO).
Note The calyx, with unequal lobes in two- series, and the three rather large sub- tending bracts make S. donnell-smithii an easily recognized species. A small beetle appears to inhabit the flowers, since most collections contained at least one.
