Prestonia speciosa Donn. Sm., Bot. Gaz. (Crawfordsville) 27: 435. 1899; P. grandiflora L.O. Williams.

Hojas, especialmente a lo largo de los nervios del envés, cáliz y parte externa de la corola pubescentes. Hojas ampliamente ovadas a obovadas, 8–26 cm de largo y 4–13 cm de ancho, ápice abrupta y cortamente acuminado, base redondeada o inconspicuamente subcordada, membranácea. Inflorescencia racemosa generalmente bifurcada cerca del ápice, con flores amarillas brillantes; sépalos ovados, 10–16 cm de largo; corola infundibuliforme, tubo 3–3.5 cm de largo, los lobos 1.5–2 cm de largo. Folículo (sólo visto en estado juvenil) grueso, en forma de cornículo, velloso.

Ocasional en nebliselvas, zona norcentral y Volcán Mombacho (Granada); 1100–1450 m; fl abr–jun, fr may; Moreno 16125, Stevens 21536; México a Nicaragua.
