Note:
Thompson (1898) is sometimes credited with having neotypified Lemna punctata, but did not do so (he merely cited a specimen on which his description was based); Landolt (1986: 440) cited the same specimen (following Thompson) using the word "Neotype," thereby effecting neotypification of the name; Ward (2011; J. Bot. Res. Inst. Texas 5: 197-203) sought to re-neotypify L. punctata on a specimen representing Spirodelia intermedia (!), but that effort has been rejected [see Wiersema, 2015 [2014]; Pl. Biol. (Stuttgart) 17 (Suppl. 1): 5-9]
