Description Rather small trees or shrubs to about 6 m. tall, the young twigs rather slender, not conspicuously flexuose, densely to sparsely hispidulous, eventually glabrate. Leaves obovate- or oblanceolate-elliptic, rarely irregularly lyrate, narrowly subcaudate-acuminate at the tip, acutely or obtusely cuneate at the base, frequently more or less falcate, 7-20 cm. long, 2-9 cm. broad, usually more or less con- spicuously and irregularly serrate-undulate toward the tip, firmly membranaceous, scabrous or hispidulous to glabrous, the petioles about 5-7 mm. long. Staminate inflorescences solitary or in clusters of 2-4, about 1 cm. in diameter, the peduncles about 5 mm. long. Pistillate inflorescences solitary or in small axillary clusters, the peduncles about 5-7 mm. long, the involucral bracts ovate, 2-4 mm. long, persistent.

Note This is the only Panamanian species of Moraceae where I have been able to find anything comparable to the familiar leaf polymophism of the northern mulberries.
