Perennial, crisp-puberulent, climbing, somewhat woody at base, up to 3 m. long. Stems many, terete, striate at nodes. Leaves opposite, 1-5 x 0.5-4 cm., ovate, obtuse or acute, margin sinuate-lobed, rarely subentire; petiole about 2 mm. long. Inflorescences umbellate, each umbel with 3-12 subsessile flowers. Peduncles up to 6 cm. long. Bracts 1-6, caducous, narrowly lanceolate to subulate, 1.5 mm. Perianth reddish, up to 10 mm. long, dense pubescent and glandular, tube about 8 mm., segments 2.5 mm. long, oblong-orbiculare. Stamens 3, exserted from tube. Fruit 7 mm. long, club-shaped, 10-sulcate, tuberculate-glandular. Fl. October-March.
