Perrier (1949) noted that this species was only known from the type collections which he presumed were from the Sambirano area. However, there are more recent collections from 1992 and later that are deposited at K and P. These are also collected from northern Madagascar in the area of Manongarivo. Perrier mis-cited the species name as 'aphanodon'. Jasminum aphanodon Miq. ex Holthuis is an invalid synonym for J. crassifolium Blume, a S-E Asian species.
