Annotation:
This species is no. 56 in Fraser's Catalog, published before Aug. 1813, prior to Pursh's mention of Oenothera macrocarpa in his Fl. Amer. Sept, ii, 734. TL2 reported Pursh's work as appearing 21 Dec. 1813, with print date of 1814. Pursh did not validly publish Oenothera macrocarpa, as erronously cited by R.R. Gates, 1914 as the basionym of Megapterium macrocarpum. The correct basionym author is Nuttall, with the 1914 combination correctly cited as Megapterium macrocarpum (Nutt.) R.R. Gates. !VCH 5/11
