Plants up to 30 cm tall. Rhizome scaly, fleshy, branched. Rape greenish with sheaths, which are short and densely arranged towards the base, elongate and distant above. Inflorescence very lax, with 4-8 large flowers. Bracts small, lanceolate, acuminate, with broadened bases, 5-12 mm long. Sepals pale brownish-olivgreen with some purplish, shortly acuminate or nearly cuspidate, up to 3 x 0.5 cm. Petals somewhat shorter and broader, curved over the column. Labellum obscurely 3-lobed, whitish, marked with crimson blotches, ovate in outline, 2 cm long; side-lobes narrow, rounded, disk with a pair of thick ridges between the side lobes. Column up to 1.5 cm long, inner surface crimson. Pedicellate ovary about 4 cm long.
