Perennial or biennial, 20-40 cm tall, subglabrous, hardly thickened at base; scales 10-15 (-18) mm long, ovate-lanceolate. Spikes lax, often tapering above. Bracts less than half as long as the corolla, ovate, acute to subacuminate; bracteoles absent. Calyx c. as long as the bracts, segments 2-fid nearly to the middle. Corolla (20-) 25-35 (-40) mm long, sub-campanulate, curved from constriction above the ovary or at the insertion point of stamens, somewhat inflated below; limb broad, upper lobes broad, reflexed, lower lobes spreading and longer, violaceous-blue.
