Similar in size and habit to A. hispida; sheaths papillose only, or glabrate; spikelets 4.5-5 mm. long, the awn of the fertile floret commonly 5 mm. long, the lower twisted portion about 2 mm. long, distinctly longer than the sterile lemma.
