Saccharum repens Willd., Sp. Pl. 1: 322 (1797). Holotipo: Ghana, Isert s.n. (B). N.v.: Zacate ilusión, zacate seda, ruby grass.

Melinis repens (Willd.) Zizka, Rhynchelytrum roseum (Nees) Stapf et C.E. Hubb., Tricholaena repens (Willd.) A. Hitchc., T. rosea Nees.

Perennes. Tallos hasta 100 cm, erectos o decumbentes, ramificados desde los nudos inferiores, papiloso-hirsutos. Vainas papiloso-hirsutas a glabras; lígula 0.8-1.2 mm; láminas 6-17 cm x 2-5 mm, hirsutas. Panícula 14-22 cm, piramidal; pedicelos flexuosos. Espiguillas 3.5-5 mm, ovadas, cubiertas con tricomas hasta 8.5 mm, rojizas, rosadas o blanco-plateado; gluma inferior 1-1.6 mm; entrenudo entre las glumas c. 0.5 mm; gluma superior y lema inferior 3.5-4.5 mm; flósculo inferior estaminado; pálea inferior c. 3 mm, ciliada apicalmente; flósculo superior 2.2-2.8 mm; anteras 2.1-2.3 mm. 2n=36.
