Description
|
Erect perennial; culms 40-80 cm. high, glabrous; sheaths glabrous, keeled, all longer than the internodes, the lower ones elongate; blades oblanceolate, 10-30 cm. long, mostly 3.5-8.5 cm. wide, narrowed to a petiolate base, the petiole sometimes as much as 10 cm. long, the tip abruptly acuminate; panicles 10-30 cm. long, the branches stiffly ascending or spreading, rarely reflexed, sometimes reduced to a single branch; staminate spikelet 4 mm. long, glabrous or minutely scabrous; glumes obtuse, the first about 1 mm. long, the second 2.5-3.5 mm. long; pistillate spikelets 15 mm. long, subsessile or short-pedicellate, appressed; glumes 8-12 mm. long, acute or subobtuse, the second a little longer than the first; fruit slender, slightly curved at the tip, densely pubescent near the summit for a short distance, otherwise glabrous.
